What does Parliament do in Kenya?

How the National Assembly and Senate make laws, represent people and oversee public spending.

Two houses with different roles

Article 93 establishes Parliament as the National Assembly and the Senate. Parliament exercises legislative authority at the national level under Article 94; legislation follows constitutional procedures rather than the decision of a single member.

Article 95 assigns the National Assembly roles in representation, national expenditure and oversight. Article 96 assigns the Senate representation and protection of county interests, a role in county-related legislation and oversight of national revenue allocated to counties.

Who represents where?

The National Assembly includes constituency MPs and county-elected Woman Representatives, among other members described in Article 97. The Senate includes elected county Senators and other members described in Article 98. A county assembly is a separate county-level legislature.
