How is an MP elected in Kenya?
How registered voters elect a constituency MP and how that differs from other National Assembly seats.
The constituency seat
Article 97 provides for a member of the National Assembly elected by registered voters of each constituency. Under Article 101, a general election of members of Parliament is held on the second Tuesday in August in every fifth year. IEBC administers elections under Article 88.
The National Assembly also includes women elected by county voters, nominated members representing special interests and the Speaker as provided in Article 97. These are not additional constituency MP seats.
Check the official result
A nomination or aspirant profile does not establish that someone has been elected. Check IEBC results and Parliament's membership records for a current officeholder; use the directory to explore public records, not to verify an election result.
