How is an MCA elected in Kenya?

The difference between an elected ward MCA and a county assembly member selected through a party list.

Ward elections

Article 177 provides for county assembly members elected by the registered voters of wards, with each ward forming a single-member constituency. Voters elect the representative for their ward through the election administered by IEBC.

Party-list membership is different

Article 177 also provides for special seats to meet the gender requirement and representation of marginalised groups, including persons with disabilities and youth. These are not additional elected ward seats.

Use current IEBC guidance for registration, nomination requirements and election arrangements. An intention to run, a party nomination and confirmation by IEBC are different stages; a WajibuWako profile does not replace any of them.
