Biography
H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, C.G.H. is the President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces. He was sworn in on 13 September 2022 after winning the August 2022 presidential election on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket within the Kenya Kwanza Alliance. He previously served as the Deputy President of Kenya from 3 April 2013 to 12 September 2022. He was first elected MP for Eldoret North on the KANU ticket and served three terms (1997–2013), later holding cabinet portfolios for Agriculture and for Higher Education. Born on 21 December 1966 in Sambut, Kamagut, Uasin Gishu County, he holds a BSc, MSc (2008) and PhD (2018) in Plant Ecology, all from the University of Nairobi.
