What does a Governor do in Kenya?

Learn about the governor's county executive, planning, accountability and public participation responsibilities.

Leading the county executive

The governor leads the county executive. Section 30 of the County Governments Act covers appointing county executive committee members with assembly approval, chairing that committee, and submitting county plans and policies to the assembly.

Implementation and accountability

The governor provides leadership to the county administration, assents to county legislation through the legal process, reports on implementation of county plans and promotes public participation.

To assess delivery, compare approved county plans and budgets with implementation reports and audit findings. Distinguish services assigned to the county from national government functions, and do not attribute all local projects to the governor without supporting records.
